Job Applicants: The Internet Changes Everything - According to America’s Everyday Ethics Guy and FOX Radio News Contributor
How President-Elect Obama’s Application Process Highlights Consequences of Emails, Blogs, and Social NetworksNaples, FL – President Elect, Barack Obama’s transition team has created a seven page, sixty three question job application to vet potential candidates for 7,000 senior level jobs in his administration. The team of 45 have a $12million budget ($5.2 granted by Congress) to use in filling the slots.

Part of the document asks for internet, blog, and email contributions regarding anything that might be deemed embarrassing or suspect to their becoming part of Obama’s administration. It provides for full disclosure and investigation into the internet/electronic lives of job applicants.

“Clearly, once the next president of the United States sanctions such a policy and procedure, it becomes a defacto standard for employers across the nation to regard this as acceptable, America’s Everyday Ethics Guy, Vince Crew told FOX Radio News Network affiliates around the country in multiple interviews conducted with talk show hosts during morning drive time hours. “Is it ethical? Is it an invasion of privacy? An employer is certainly within his or her rights to ensure they’re hiring someone who has not misrepresented themselves and once you’ve made a posting electronically, you’ve relinquished a great deal of protection inasmuch as anyone can forward or search and find everything associated with your name.”

Crew is the author of four books. His latest, “Everyday Ethics, Everlasting Consequences” (available at www.REACHdevelopment.com) addresses a number of issues centering around everyday decisions and conduct that can lead to consequences down the road.

Crew said, “One of the more troubling aspects of young people’s lives today are social networks and picture sharing and postings from parties and various activities that if released to a potential employer, could be a show stopper for employment. Unfortunately even college age students don’t think in terms of post graduate lives and the embarrassing impact our electronic storage and retrieval age enables.”

As a Fox Radio News contributor, Crew was interviewed on WHAS (Louisville), WINK (Fort Myers), KTRP (Houston), WTAM (Cleveland), WSYR (Syracuse), WTAG (Worcester), KCOL (Fort Collins), KNST (Tucson), WHLO (Akron), KPAY, (Chico), KFBK (Sacramento), WNRP (Pensacola), KNEW (San Francisco), and WGST (Atlanta).

Select interviews are available at www.REACHdevelopment.com under “Vince Crew In Person.”
