Honest, is what I want everyone to be with me, unless of course it might hurt my feelings, then by all means lie.
How many times to do we 'sugarcoat' the truth because it makes us feel better? The purpose of honesty is to carry out truthful dealings. IF I make up lies and clever excuses, how can I expect you to trust me? Honesty yields predictability and trust – without those two, no any relationship succeed.
Integrity simply means, my word is my bond. If someone does what they say they will, they're pillars of integrity and dependability. They have earned the right to be considered for future dealings and an on-going relationship?
But, if people can't trust you to hold to some value system and stand behind your promises, your days will be numbered and your circle of friends and influence very, very small.
Leadership is about consistency in performance, constancy in values, and commitment to achieving the goals. Unfortunately, that can describe the worst criminals and terrorists as well as the most revered icons of our times.
The true ethical compass that dictates an honorable leader is when the parameters surrounding the power and the performance of those who have it are noble and valuable beyond self-benefit.
The bottom line?
There is only one reason to be good: believing that being good is invaluable to the well-being of those you love and those who depend on you most.
