Make 'Em Proud

Most of us want to do our best work for our employers and your employees are no exception. Among the strongest motivators for retaining good employees and having them give their all, is to make 'em proud. Pride in a position, industry and employer is one of those often overlooked intrinsic motivators. Intrinsic or internally-charged factors however can be supported with extrensic and real tangible external actions.

Here are several ways to increase the pride factor:

  • Prepare
Employees must be ready and able to carry out their tasks -- this means investing in
training, budgets, time and patience. Often different people "get it" at different paces,
so re-enforcement programs, repetition, and mentoring or partnering with another
coworker can be of tremendous value.
  • Respect
Without a doubt, recognizing everyone's contributions and concerns - from internal and external stakeholders - can go a long way when going the extra mile is needed to meet a deadline or achieve a goal.
  • Operate
Beyond words, act as though you had become the calibre of leader in the incredible
enterprise you invision. People respond to forward-thinking and superior examples
    of their bosses and coworkers.
  • Understand
Every individual has differences and similarities, especially when it comes to motivations,
values, work ethics, etc. To be effective, you must appreciate those traits and respond
to your people accordingly... they'll appreciate the personalization and respond with loyalty.
  • Delegate
In order to empower, encourage and enhance employees work lives, their responsibilities
and authority must me continually examined for 'appropriateness' based on their desires,
abilities, and their grooming for long-term contributions to the organization.

Remember to focus on improving yourself, your people and your workplace with these efforts and you'll besurprise how dependable and responsive your staff will be staying around and doing the jobs that need to be done.
